What does Freedom mean to you?
Freedom is an amazing thing. It’s something that God intends for all people… for Toms River and beyond. He has also chosen us to be instruments of that freedom. To proclaim freedom to those who are captive in sin, fear, depression, addiction, grief, and guilt. To bring freedom to those who are struggling, homeless, beaten down, and lonely. To provide freedom to our children and the next generations.
We can and will embody that freedom, but often to make the kind of difference we are called to make, we need resources and money. That’s why we are launching this Freedom Campaign to eliminate our mortgage. We need to be free from our debt so that we can be free to compassionately and joyfully love and serve. You probably have lots of questions or thoughts about this campaign: How can I help? How did we get here? What happens when we pay off the mortgage? And more. We want to address those to the best of our ability and we want to hear what kinds of “freedom dreams” God has given you.
We kicked off this campaign near the close of 2019 with gratitude in our hearts. In the first phase of the Freedom Campaign, we witnessed 165 church households pledge more than $770,000 toward our goal of raising $1.8 million. In 2019, we received $290,000 toward the campaign. At the end of December 2019, this amount was paid to the bank to reduce our principal.
In 2020, we paid down the mortgage by another $340,000 through the support of the congregation. With an additional $170,000 mortgage reduction due to interest savings and outstanding pledges of $200,000, our current remainder to reach the goal is approximately $800,000.
