Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. ~ 1 Peter 4:10
God has blessed each of us with tremendous gifts. At the Presbyterian Church of Toms River, we’re blessed with numerous opportunities to use those gifts in service to God, our community, and each other. Following are some of programs and groups within our church currently looking for volunteers and support. If you have any questions about one of these opportunities, or would like to volunteer for one, please contact the church office unless otherwise noted.
Christmas Tree of Hope
The Outreach Commission is providing a Christmas Tree of Hope so you can take a tag from the tree and purchase a gift to bring some hope to a family in need. The tree will be located outside the Chapel December 2nd through December 17th. Please place purchased gift cards in the black box next to the tree. The cards will be given out through the Hope Center and Urban Promise.
Star Light, Start Bright Shopping Event
Will you be part of the Hope Center’s Star Light, Star Bright Shopping Event? The HOPE Center is planning a “shopping” day for their clients. From now until Friday, December 15th, the Hope Center will be collecting brand new unwrapped toys and gifts. These gifts will allow the Center’s clients to share some Christmas cheer with their children. Gift cards for teenagers are especially needed! We again thank you for your love and generosity!
Send a Note of Cheer
Please take an ornament or two from the trees in the Narthex or outside Fellowship Hall on December 2/3 and December 9/10. On the ornament you’ll find the name and address of a member who finds it difficult to worship with us in person. Please send a card or a note letting that person know we are thinking of them and wish them a blessed Christmas!
Food Pantry Volunteer Opportunity
Every month 250 – 300 families in our community are served by The Food Pantry at The Hope Center. Many of you have donated canned goods and personal care items over the years to help the Pantry, help others. We thank you for your generosity and we encourage you to continue supporting this important mission with your kindness. The Food Pantry at the Hope Center is also seeking volunteers willing to spend time each week sorting donations, stocking shelves, and assisting clients. Can you help? You can call the Hope Center for more information or you can contact the church office and we’ll help get you in touch with someone who can get you started.
Welcome Center Volunteer
As a Welcome Center Volunteer, you have the opportunity to warmly connect with people who come to PCTR. Volunteers will do such things as wish someone a good morning, provide a helpful answer to their question, or give them a handout with information about a particular ministry or upcoming event. Click here to see the current schedule and volunteer for an upcoming shift – whether for this weekend or for a time in the more distant future.
Deacon’s Nursing Home Gift Collection
The Deacon Outreach Committee will be collecting small git items to be distributed to nursing home residents. We are requesting the following items:
|CD Players||Puzzle books|
|Small stuff animals||Slipper socks|
|Pens & Pencils||Socks|
|Music CDs||Sugar-free candies|
Keep in mind that these gifts will be given to men & women. There will be collection boxes at the entrances around the church where you can place your gifts. Please bring NEW items only.

Sound Booth Volunteers
We’re blessed with a fantastic group of volunteers that run the slides and LiveStream feed during worship, but we can always use a few more team members. If you’re interested in joining our team, contact Scott Slawson. We’ll train you and get you on the schedule!
When you arrive for worship each weekend, you’re greeted with a smile by one of our ushers. That hearty good morning as you receive your bulletin is a wonderful way to begin the service, isn’t it? If you’d like to be part of offering that service to others, consider joining our Ushering Guild! Contact the office to find out how you can help. We’re looking for individuals who are seeking an occasional or regular commitment to serve the congregation.
